Opening of Helsinki Photo Festival
Everybody is welcome to Helsinki’s new cultural highlight, the Helsinki Photo Festival!
From the 5th of July to August 15th, Helsinki Photo Festival unfolds a diverse program, promoting contemporary fine art photography and urban exhibitions. It includes artist talks, workshops, seminars, photo walks and innovative outdoor modular-shaped photography-based structures, all of them inviting residents, tourists and photo enthusiasts of any age to experience photography together in the metropolitan surroundings of the Teurastamo abattoir and Kalasatama park and waterfront areas.
The opening event of the festival will happen on the 5th of July in Kellohalli (K18) and in Teurastamo’s new exhibition space Galleria Futura with its first exhibition “Without anything, but this” by French photographer Lorenzö. The show aims to highlight the lack of empathy towards asylum seekers, with pictures taken in Finland but nevertheless addressing a universal issue.
In Teurastamo’s yard, we will reveal the Nordic Village with novel state-of-the-art modular-shaped photography-based installations and cutting-edge photography works never shown before in Finland by Danish, Swedish, Norwegian and Finnish photographers.
Music in Kellohalli by Funky Amigo’s Dj Magic Sam & Funky Ville and Dj Ian. Visuals by Random Doctors.
