Ion Grigorescu: The open Artist

Exhibition at Kohta Art Space

Ion Grigorescu (Romania, 1945, lives in Bucharest) is one of the crucial European postwar artist. His oeuvre is both many-faceted and singularly personal. He has twice represented Romania at the Venice Biennale, in 1997 and in 2011, and he participated in documenta XII in Kassel in 2007.

Grigorescu is an extraordinarily versatile artist, who has excelled in classically oriented painting, investigative drawing, politically engaged printmaking, text, performance art, photography and experimental film, but also the restoration of historical religious painting and the creation of innovative religious imagery based on the Romanian Orthodox canon.

The exhibition at Kohta will be the first presentation on Finland of Grigorescu’s work. It will comprise around 100 works in various genres and techniques, made between 1964 and 2019 and belonging to hisown collection and to a number of private collections in Romania.

‘Ion Grigorescu: The Open Artist’ is organised by Kohta with kind support from the Romanian Cultural Institute in Stockholm and Andreiana Mihail Gallery in Bucharest.
